University Presentation

University of Southern Denmark has more than 20,000 students and more than 3,200 employees. The university offers teaching and research at 6 campuses. SDU’s research in health sciences is well known and respected internationally. The strength lies in combining advanced biomedical and epidemiological research with research on health promotion, prevention, rehabilitation and methods of examination and treatment.
The Institute of Public Health constantly works to achieve visibility being a leading international research institute and being attractive as a partner for cooperation in relations to analysis of ill-health and health. A major breakthrough came in 1990 with the advent of the Odense University Pharmacoepidemiologic Database (OPED). It has complete capture of all computerised prescriptions in Region of Southern Denmark (population 1.2 million) which allows a detailed account of how drugs are distributed among different users and - by linkage to other data resources - the experience of the drug users in terms of adverse events.
